What is it?

To understand what is K-Dramas i'll explaing first what's "Doramas".
The name is pretty similar right?
Doramas is the Japanese definition of "dramas". This definition got a different meaning which is every kind of Asian soap operas or, as I prefer to call it, "Tv series".
Actually is not very different from soap operas but it has some differences and it's that differences that makes me watch "Doramas" and not Soap Operas.

But what exactly is K-Drama?
Well... K-Drama is the specific definition of that series in Korea. (Letter K stands for Korea)
You can find J-Dramas (japanese), C-Drama (chinese), Tw-Dramas (taiwanese) and Thai-Dramas (Thailandese).
Note: Thailand and Taiwan are different countries and the language too. In Thaiwan they speak a chinese dialect.

So, about what is a "Drama"...
It's pretty similar with a soap opera.
You have the beginning where the characters are presented and they make you know what will be the main plot. In some cases they can have plot twists and then they will show you problems betwen the characters. The Drama will have very changes trhough the story. It can be about the personality of the characters or even the relationship between them.
The biggest differences between "drama" and "soap opera" is the number of episodes. The smallest Asian dramas usually just have about 13-16 episodes, the big ones have around 20-26 episodes. There are bigger ones, which is more similar to soap operas, but it's way more unusual.
Each episode usually have around 1 hour.

The content of the Asian dramas are much more conservative. You won't see a kiss in the second date and you'll have to wait about 10 episodes to see it. And sometimes it won't happen... Sometimes you end whatcing a Drama and you just saw a hug and nothing more. It can be pretty upset but furtunatly I just had that experience with only 2 dramas. However, I don't think that's a bad thing. It makes you give more value to that. I mean... If you saw about 10 kisses in the first episode what difference it will have if you watch even more kisses in the next 10? You'll be used to it so it won't be a big deal.
By the way, you won't see girls in underwear. It's like taboo thing. Boys shirtless - oh yes, girls in underwer - big no.

The ending will be very unexpected. That's another difference betwenn soap operas and asian dramas. You'll never know if the character you love will die in the end or if he/she will stay with the girl/boy you want. So, it can have the most happy ending you ever wanted or that ending that can break your heart for the next month.
The ending is always a surprise so I think that's what makes me want to watch it. It's unpredictable.

For that reason, I recommend you to bring some paper tissues, just in case.
